Our Founder, Mike, spent a lot of time in Japan in his late twenties and early thirties - you could say it molded his fashion sense in some ways. In Japan, one must look presentable in all societal interactions and it is smiled upon to wear your best while also maintaining a sense of minimalism. Not minimalism in the way one might think, however - its minimalism in the form of having less and using it more, forcing yourself to take care of a smaller list of ingredients and find pride in them - therefore, you end up buying higher quality goods all around that are capable of meeting more of your needs, more often.
Over time, Mikeās schedule started to demand more products that could go everywhere and do almost anything - the suitcase needed to get smaller as he would constantly trip from London and Tokyo happenings out to Chiba for laid back surf weekends. Naturally, the chore coat made a great candidate for a smart sport coat vibe and was the perfect fit for all utilitarian needs along the way (i.e. surf wax, train tickets, spare change, road beers, cracker jacks and cell phones).
