DJ Javier | "Blood of Mactan" Patch
Made by our good buds at Howlin' Embroidery in San Diego, CA. Patch is 2"x 1.25"
This one’s been in the cooker for quite some time - we’re proud to finally introduce Imperfects x DJ Javier.
We chatted with DJ on some creative action mid pandemic and everything fell into place (minus the part where it takes years to make product mid pandemic). We literally said, “go for it, the canvas is yours.” It truly took DJ longer to name this piece than to bring it to fruition.
The “Blood of Mactan” graphic is in reference to Magellan being killed by Filipino hero Lapulapu in 1521 after Magellan tried to invade the Philippines. The symbolism in this piece shows the strength and resilience of the Filipino people. It is a pleasure to be able to help DJ spread the incorporation of his heritage through art and let it be a vehicle (literally and figuratively) for change and progression in today’s stereotypical landscape.
Available on the new Imperfects 90’s Shape, 8.25 Popsicle, Natural Duck Canvas Hat + Patch.
A portion of all proceeds from this Imperfects x DJ Javier collaboration will go to the Children’s Creative Project. Children’s Creative Project is a non-profit organization that provides students from kindergarten to 12th grade across Santa Barbara County with access to diverse and multicultural arts experiences exposing them to historic traditions and contemporary practices of both visual and performing artists. The organization also serves schools in San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties. CCP is close to DJ’s heart as he has worked with CCP and has experienced the value of their programs first hand. For more information on CCP and to learn how to further support the work their team is doing, see here.
